OMEO DIVE TRAIL PONTOON
Will bad behaviour harpoon this pontoon?A new pontoon has been installed at Omeo Dive Trail and residents are concerned that the problems of Ngarkal Beach may just be transferred to this location. But this pontoon is a different shape so no running along it is likely. Noise should be minimal for residents given the distance from the houses. The bigger risks are to the safety of younger children who may struggle to get out there not realising how deep it is and that it will be used as a fishing platform and boats will raft up to it. Having lobbied to keep boats out of the Dive Trail we will keep a watching brief. We are working on better signage on the buoys and replacement of missing buoys down to the shark barrier. We hope everyone will give it a go this summer. At their best, the pontoons along our waterfront are great fun and can enhance swimmer safety; not to mention, it may even give people an alternative to standing on the Omeo Wreck.
